Exercise. Plainville back pain sufferers hear
the recommendation to exercise often. Layden Chiropractic
recommends it, also. Exercise keeps showing its
benefit for relief of low back pain and its prevention…and a new report shows benefit for better
sleep quality!
EXERCISE FOR RELIEF OF THE BURDEN OF LOW BACK PAIN
Low back pain is a problem for the low back pain
sufferer, the family, the community, and the healthcare system. Healthcare
providers and researchers investigate proposed
long-term ways to decrease this problem for whose
sufferers’ disability continues. Exercise tops the list of
non-invasive, non-drug general recommendations along with manual therapy and
massage. (1) Layden Chiropractic

BACK PAIN SPECIALIST’S PLAN FOR BACK PAIN RELIEF ADDS EXERCISE
Many chronic back pain sufferers find themselves going to their primary care practitioners
first. It’s a pretty standard routing. Primary
care recommendations for chronic low back pain care usually
involve exercise, oral prescriptions of NSAIDs and SNRI’s like duloxetine. In research,
there is a curious statistic called “number to treat”
which indicates the number of patients with a certain
condition who need to have it done the treatment
recommendation for 1 of them to find
benefit. In this new study, the number to treat for 1 chronic low
back pain patient to report benefit from exercise was 7, from NSAIDs 6, and SNRIs
10. Of these 3 options, exercise was the only intervention that showed
sustained chronic low back pain relief after the intervention
ended and up to 48 weeks later. (2) Exercise is a valued,
self-management, non-drug alternative for chronic low back pain
patients. Layden Chiropractic always incorporates it in the
Plainville chiropractic treatment plan. Exercise places some
control of chronic low back pain in our Plainville chiropractic
patients’ hands.
WHAT ABOUT SLEEP AND EXERCISE?
Another advantageous patient-controlled
alternative is the sleep and exercise option.
Lack of sleep – time and/or quality – is an issue for so many
Plainville chiropractic patients. Layden Chiropractic often hears our
patients discuss sleep difficulties. Sleep is rejuvenating
for the body and the mind. Exercise is often prescribed to
address sleep and mood issues. A noteworthy study about
the relationship between sleep and exercise highlights some interesting
findings in young women and men. There
are differences for each! Men who exercised more frequently
reported falling asleep quicker, less daytime trouble,
and less depressive mood. Women who exercised more frequently went
to bed earlier, experienced better sleep
quality, and reported more benefit from sleep, less depressive
mood, and less anger. (3) Regular exercise is important for so many issues!
